Praying for Your Children From Head to Toe

First Peter 5:8 says the enemy of our souls is on the prowl, ever looking for someone to devour. Like it or not, that means that Christians are his prime target. As a Christian parent, we should prioritize praying for our children.

Praying for your children is one of the most powerful things you can do as a parent. We should pray daily for their soul, relationships, safety, and health.

When I’m putting my kids to bed at night, I’ll pray for my children from head to toe.

Praying For My Child’s Thought Life

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:8-9

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Philippians 4:8

Father, I pray that you draw my child to You for salvation, and that You would guard my child’s thoughts. I pray that both me and my child to focus on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise. God, give my child the wisdom that only You can provide. Give my child discernment and strength to seek understanding.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Praying For My Child’s Eyes

“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.”
Psalm 119:18

“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.” Proverbs 4:25-26

Gracious God, help me protect my child’s innocence. Guide me to know how to best guide my child. Supernaturally deliver my child from evil. May my child see Your goodness and may they behold the wondrous things You show us daily.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Praying For My Child’s Ears

“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”
Isaiah 30:21

“Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it.”
Proverbs 8:32-33

Father, thank You for my child, and thank You for your guidance. I’ve seen the evidence of Your direction in my life over the years, and I pray that you would protect my child’s ears from hearing evil things so that they can more clearly hear You. Keep my child from hearing corrupting words and let them hear.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Praying For My Child’s Tongue

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29

“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
Psalm 19:14

Redeemer God, You are wise and Your words are perfect. We are made in Your image, but because we sinned, our words are not perfect. Father, protect my child from his or her own tongue. Help me teach my child self-control with how I use my words. Father, may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Praying For My Child’s Heart

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”
Jeremiah 17:9-10

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26

Father God, bring salvation to my child if they aren’t saved, and if they are, renew the joy of Your salvation to their heart. God, guard my child’s heart, and help both me and my child understand when our hearts are trying to lie to us. Help us both to see Your truth as the only truth. Give us both soft hearts to hear Your word and share it with others.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Praying For My Child’s Hands

“For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.'”
Isaiah 41:13

Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the Lord!
Psalm 134:2

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!
Psalm 90:17

Father, thank You for holding my right hand. Thank You for the help You provide me. I pray that you would do the same for my child, and that throughout their life, they would feel your guidance and help. Father, I pray that my child would see your guidance and would bless You with praise. God, establish the work of our hands, and let my child see the value of hard work.
In Jesus’ Name
Amen

Praying For My Child’s Health

“My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.” Proverbs 4:20-22

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Heavenly Father, You are our Great Physician and You are our Maker and Designer. Thank You for giving me this child and thank You for how You designed their body. God, work in my child’s life, give them health and strength to do Your will. You have numbered the days of my child’s life. Give me peace in knowing that You have it all under control. Help both me and my child to live in our bodies in a way that brings You glory.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Praying For My Child’s Feet

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
Isaiah 52:7

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105

Father, direct my child’s steps. Protect my child from stumbling and make their path straight. Someday, let them bring the good news of salvation to people in their life. May my child be active in spreading Your messages near and far.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
